Atom is a hackable text editor for the 21st century, built on Electron, and based on everything we love about our favorite editors. We designed it to be deeply customizable, but still approachable using the default configuration.

Now it's time to come to the 'Hackable' part of the Hackable Editor. As we've seen throughout the second section, a huge part of Atom is made up of bundled packages. If you wish to add some functionality to Atom, you have access to the same APIs and tools that the core features of Atom. Atom is a hackable text editor for the 21st century, built on Electron, and based on everything we love about our favorite editors.We designed it to be deeply customizable, but still approachable using the default configuration. Atom is a desktop text editor application based on web technologies. Like other desktop apps, it has its own icon in the dock, native menus and dialogs, and full access to the file system. Installing
Prerequisites

Download the latest Atom release. Right font 5 3 3 x 5.
Atom will automatically update when a new release is available.

is 32-bit. For 64-bit systems, download AtomSetup-x64.exe

Atom is only available for 64-bit Linux systems.
Configure your distribution's package manager to install and update Atom by following the Linux installation instructions in the Flight Manual. You will also find instructions on how to install Atom's official Linux packages without using a package repository, though you will not get automatic updates after installing Atom this way.
Archive extraction
Atom 1 14 3 – A Hackable Text Editor Free
An archive is available for people who don't want to install
atom
as root.This version enables you to install multiple Atom versions in parallel. It has been built on Ubuntu 64-bit,but should be compatible with other Linux distributions.
- Install dependencies (on Ubuntu):
sudo apt install git gconf2 gconf-service libgtk2.0-0 libudev1 libgcrypt20 libnotify4 libxtst6 libnss3 python3 gvfs-bin xdg-utils libcap2
- (If the
python3
package isn't available, or is too old (Python 3 should be >= 3.5), eitherpython2
orpython
(2.6 or 2.7) will work in its place.)

atom-amd64.tar.gz
from the Atom releases page. - Run
tar xf atom-amd64.tar.gz
in the directory where you want to extract the Atom folder. - Launch Atom using the installed
atom
command from the newly extracted directory.
The Linux version does not currently automatically update so you will need torepeat these steps to upgrade to future releases.
